Hottest Day Of The Year On Tap For Massachusetts: Here's What You Should Know

Massachusetts will feel the burn over the next few days as hot temperatures and high humidity will make for surmountable heat conditions, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

NWS has issued a heat advisory as heat index values are expected to get up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. If the Commonwealth hits this mark, it will be the hottest weather day of the year, AccuWeather reports.

The advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4 to Friday, Aug. 5 at 8 p.m and applies all of Massachusetts minus the Cape and islands. It also applies to portions of northern Connecticut and all of Rhode Island expect Block Island.

NWS says these extreme conditions may cause heat-related illnesses to occur and that residents should take the necessary precautions to help stay safe and healthy. More information about extreme heat safety tips can be found online.

Meanwhile, many cities and towns across the Commonwealth are taking actions in the wake of the heat stretch. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu declared a heat emergency in the city from Thursday through Sunday.
